Electrochemically-actuated Morphing Helicopter Blade

چکیده
The use of the expansion of lithium-ion cells for mechanical actuation has been recently reported by Chin et. al. (1). Under a stress of 10 MPa, actuating strains of up to 1.5% were achieved. Taking into account the cells approximate elastic modulus, this strain corresponds to a mechanical energy density ten times higher than that of current piezoelectric materials, although with slower actuation speeds.

Erf2011-135 Geometric Optimisation of a Gurney Flap Hinge-less Deployment System for a Helicopter Model Blade
Following a comparative study on shape morphing and adaptive systems to improve rotorcraft efficiency, the Green Rotorcraft consortium has selected the Gurney flap technology as demonstrator of a smart adaptive rotorblade within the Clean Sky Joint Technology Initiative [1]. The aim of such a system is to actively increase helicopter overall performance by improving lift and alleviating static ...
متن کاملHelicopter Performance and Vibration Enhancement by Twist-Actuated Blades
This paper investigates potential improvements that can be accomplished by integral twist-actuated rotor blades regarding helicopter performance and its vibration. The twist deformation is obtained using anisotropic piezocomposite actuators embedded in the composite blade construction. A four-bladed fullyarticulated Active Twist Rotor (ATR) system was built and tested at Langley Transonic Dynam...
متن کاملMorphing Helicopter Rotor Blade with Curvilinear Fiber Composites
A variable camber morphing rotor blade with curvilinear fiber composite skin is studied in this paper. The benefits of curvilinear fiber (CVF) composites for morphing skin over the linear fiber are investigated, initially. The skin of a morphing blade is modeled as a plate supported between the D-spar and trailing edge of typical rotor blade dimensions. The CVF composite shows about 60 % increa...
متن کاملAnalysis of Stresses in Helicopter Composite blade in Hovering Maneuver
The main purpose of this article is the structural analysis of a composite blade of a selected helicopter. In this study, the stresses on rotors' blades caused by centrifugal forces, lift, drag and torque are analyzed. The governing equations of the structure behavior and solving processes were carried out by MATLAB software, and simulation is carried out by ABAQUS software, and they are compar...
متن کاملHelicopter Blade Stability Analysis Using Aeroelastic Frequency Response Functions
In the present paper, the aeroelastic stability of helicopter rotor blade is determined using Aeroelastic Frequency Response Function. The conventional methods of aeroelastic stability usually use an iterative procedure while the present method does not require such approach. Aeroelastic Frequency Response Functions are obtained by inverting dynamic stiffness matrix of the aeroelastic system. S...
